Margaíocht Shaile has completed a new dual-language website for the Líonra Leitir Ceanainn, and the platform was officially launched at a breakfast event in Letterkenny recently.

Líonra Leitir Ceanainn (LLC) is a community organisation based in Letterkenny, County Donegal, dedicated to promoting and supporting the Irish language within the local area. The organisation works as part of Líonraí Gaeilge, a network of Irish language groups that aim to foster Gaelic culture, create Irish-speaking spaces, and provide resources and support for Irish language learners and speakers.

LLL has been appointed to develop an Irish language plan for Letterkenny as a Gaeltacht Services Town, and as an active part of the Letterkenny community, LLC organises events, offers Irish language courses, and partners with other community organisations to promote the use of Irish in social, educational, and cultural settings. Through these efforts, LLC aims to develop an inclusive environment where the Irish language can thrive, connecting both fluent speakers and newcomers to Gaelic heritage.

Recently, LLC launched a new website to enhance its digital presence, helping members and the wider community access information on events, membership, and resources easily. This online platform reflects LLC’s commitment to future-proofing the Irish language and engaging the next generation in the cultural heritage of Letterkenny and beyond.

The website replaces a previous platform which had limitation in relation to SEO (search engine optimisation), e-commerce restrictions and limited flexibility.

The new WordPress platform makes it easy for LLC to post news, events, and operate their online shop, which now offers a ‘click and collect’ option. The platform’s enhanced SEO will help LLC reach more people and connect them with the Irish language.

Members coming to the site will find a user-friendly interface where pages are clearly labelled, ensuring ease of access for courses, events and the shop.

Speaking after the official launch of the new website by Fionnbarra Ó Brolcháin at an event organised in collaboration with the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce, Managing Director of Margaíocht Sháile said:

“Margaíocht Sháile would like to thank Líonra Leitir Ceanainn for the opportunity to collaborate on their new website. We believe this user-friendly platform, which includes an e-commerce facility, will play a vital role in supporting and promoting the Irish language in the Letterkenny area. With this future-proofed resource, LLC is well-equipped to reach both current and prospective members, offering accessible information about their organisation and their mission. We’re excited to be part of this new site and we hope it will help LLC build a strong future for the Irish language in the Letterkenny community.”

Speaking at the event, Bairbre Uí Chathail, Comhordaitheoir Pleanála Teanga for Líonra Leitir Ceanainn said:

“Líonra Leitir Ceanainn is delighted to be able to launch this new website Lionralc.ie. Margaiocht Sháile understood what we wanted right from the beginning and were able to design and develop a bilingual website with Irish as the primary language. This website will be the primary source for information about our work, events and the resources we offer. It will be able to put a spotlight on the language planning work we do, show clearly what that involves and also give people a way to give their input to the language plan as we move forward.

“With the work Margaíocht Sháile have done on the website we are confident that it is future-proofed. As an organisation we will be able to add to it, further develop the e-commerce aspects and make sure that the site continues to be responsive to the needs of the community. We are very grateful for the professional work Oilibhéar and the team at Margaíocht Sháile have done and we would be more than happy to recommend them to any other business or organisation which intends to develop a new website whether that is in Irish, English or bilingual.”
